Free electron model assumes that the electrons in a metal behave like a gas of free particles The removal of the valence electron from an atom leaves a +vely charged ion core The free electorn model assumes that the charge density associated with the ion cores is spread uniformly throughout the metal so that the electrons move in a constant electrostatic potential. |

Thermoelectric Effect |
The thermoelectric devices uses two types of semiconductor "legs" that are connected in series. Electrons carry the current in n-type leg and holes carry current in the p-type leg. If a current flow from n-type material to p-type, the dominant carriers from both materials move away from the junction and carry away heat. Thus the junction becomes cold. |
